Project stay at home mom

Hi! I am Melissa and I came up with the idea of Project sahm[stay at home mom] after a really long day with my kids!

Growing up, I always wanted to be a mom. In fact, in collage, I wrote a paper about what I wanted to be, and that was a mother.

In 2001 I married the best guy in the world after dating for three years [we met on a blind date and married exactly three years later!]. We quickly got pregnant and had our son, Zach, in Nov. of 2002. He was wonderful! Such a perfect little guy. Everything he did was cute, including his blood curdling cry!

20 months later, my gorgeous daughter, Alissa was born. I was now a mom of two little kiddos. I soon realized that I had some very strong post pardon depression. I had this with Zach, but this time knew more what was going on. It was hard. and being a mom of two kids was hard.

My kids are now 6.5 and 5 yrs old and being a mom has been one of the HARDEST things I’ve ever had to do! I will never be the mom who pretends it’s easy, and I will always be the first to say it’s hard. Some days I feel like I’m a total failure and my kids will grow up and hate me!

It was in November of 2006 when I decided to start this idea. If you know me, [which a lot don't, so I'll tell ya] you know that I have struggled with depression and found out after going to the doctor that my hormones were totally off balance! I suffered for so many years and in Aug 2006, I finally went to my doctor for help.

[I can report now that taking these natural meds to level my hormones out has changed my life! I still struggle, but not nearly as much!].

Anyways, Nov had been a particularly hard month for me. It was cold out side, we were “trapped inside”, I sat in my husbands [who is 100 lbs more than me] black xxl pajama pants and his xl gray sweater, and I started a blog. It was called “frumpy mom wants a new outfit”. I had taken a picture of myself looking just blah and frumpy and used it as my blog header! It was a blog for me to vent on. I wasn’t going to show anyone, or tell anyone about it. I just needed a place to vent about the frustrations of being a mom and feeling like I was losing myself!

As I typed, Oprah played in the back ground. It was her Pay It Forward show. I stopped to watch [in tears] and as Oprah would say I had an “AH hA” moment! I wanted to some how surprise stay at home moms with a new outfit! I wasn’t sure how, but I wanted to do it! I thought about it and my blog quickly changed from “frumpy mom wants a new outfit” to “Project sahm” and that’s how it all started!! I wanted stay at home moms to know they are apprecated!

So, that is that! Sorry for the novel [as I'm not really the best writer]. A little more about me…

* Lake Powell is my favorite place!

* I love to digital scrapbook [when I am in the mood].

* I’m a blog addict. I have many blogs and I also keep track of family/friends blogs via bloglines.com [if you don't have a bloglines account, you must get one! totally saves time when checking blogs!].

* I was lucky enough to marry the best guy. He was raised with 4 sisters and very much knows how to respect and treat a woman [although most of the time I don't deserve it]. We celebrate 8 yrs of marriage this month, 11 yrs being together!

* I am a [very part time, until my kids are in school full time] photographer. I used to be very shy and now I love meeting new people and getting to know their families! I also design templates for photographers to make their jobs a little easier.

* I love my little family. We are done having kids and feel blessed to have a boy and a girl! [photo taken by my good friend Tammy Jarman].
