Need your help!

Project stay at home mom

I am so excited to get this project up and running again, but I can’t do it alone! When I started Project sahm, it was a new and cool idea. With the help of friends and family, I was able to surprise a handful of moms and it was a lot of fun! I’m now, more than ever, really trying to spread the word about Project sahm. Some times I wonder if it’s just me, but I get really excited about fun ideas like this, and I really try and tell EVERYONE I know. I email, facebook, blog about, text, you name, I do it LOL and I guess I just assume others do the same obsessive things as I do, don’t they?  he he he…

SO, if you are here, reading this blog, it is not by mistake!! You are here because you think Project sahm is a good idea! You are here because someone told you and you wanted to see what it was all about! You are here because you want to be part of this! Am I right, or am I right?! So what do you say?! Can you help a girl out?! [pretty please]. I’m asking not only for me, but for the future moms who will be surprised! Also remember, that I can’t do this with out donations. Every little bit helps, so even if you have $1.00 to pitch in, that’s awesome! No amount is too small! It’s the thought and generosity that matters! Thank you all so much for your support!

Meet Holly!

Project stay at home mom

So I did it! LOL, after all this time, I finally went and did my next surprise! I decided to go alone this time, because when I’m with other people it seems like it turns more into just giving the moms the money and not really explaining why I’m doing it. So I took my two kids with me, walked into the mall (by the play area) and immediately saw Holly sitting there. I’ve said it before, but I just “know” when I find the mom I want to surprise! There were other moms there, but something about this one made her the one!

The kids and I walked and sat down just right out side the play area. I was nervious, so I was taking a minute to decide to approach her. In that time, she actually got up and went walking with her 4 kids to a candy store. I decided to take a walk around the mall just to “make sure” this mom was the one and sure enough, no one else stood out to me. I told my kids that if she was still there, we’d wait for her and then surprise her. Well, you can guess that she WAS still there, because after she came out, I walked up to her and said “excuse me mam” (lol, we laughed about that because mam is just such a silly thing to call a younger woman). I do get nervious, so I’m sure I rambled some stuff that made no sense to her, but some where in there, I mentioned what I was doing and handed her over the money to go shopping!

When she was done, we spent a good 45 minutes talking and she is just such an awesome person! She totally deserved this and I’m glad she happened to be there when I decided to do this! She picked out some totally CUTE clothes and a purse that is so so cute [I told her I wanted to go get one!].

Melissa–I keep thinking about what you are doing, and I think it is so awesome. It has reminded me how important it is to forget ourselves and do something nice for someone else. I enjoyed reading your blog and reading about the others who have had this awesome experience. I am so grateful for what you did for me–it really meant a lot to me!
Here is my story:
I just gave birth to my 4th child 10 days ago. Most people would think I’m nuts to be out with a newborn so little and that I should be home taking it easy. But…with the way the weather has been–rainy everyday for the past week, I was starting to get a little depressed and a little bit of cabin fever. So I ventured out to the mall to return the little girl outfit that I bought in case we had a girl (we didn’t know that we were having a little boy.)
To tell you the truth, I was a little taken back when Melissa approached me and asked me if I had an hour. My first thoughts were “does she want me to watch her 2 kids that she had with her?” or “does she want me to do some survey?” I honestly wasn’t prepared for the generous gift that she gave me. Of course I was a little skeptical, but found there was no harm in what she was doing–heck she gave me $150 in cash to go buy something for me, yes ME! I will admit, it was very challenging for me-I never buy for me, in fact, I thought about how easily I could walk into Gymboree, or Baby Gap, and spend it all very quickly. But as I was walking down the mall, I started thinking about myself for a minute and how it has kind of been a rough year for me.
My husband has been living and working in California for the last year due to license issues. He would come to Utah every 2 weeks to visit me and the kids. I opted to stay in Utah and live with Mom so my kids would have a better school and environment situation. This past year has been rough being a single parent, not to mention that I was expecting baby #4 and was very tired and uncomfortable most days. In 2 weeks, we will be moving to Las Vegas for my husband to go back to school. We have been debating if this was the right decision financially for us and feel that it is right even though we know that money will be tight for the next 2 years. Having Melissa present me with this generous gift helped me get a few new things, and today I wore one of the shirts and it was so nice to not wear maternity shirt anymore and feel somewhat cute even if I have some baby weight to lose. I honestly don’t think that I would have ever had the money to buy me something new. I probably would have just pulled out my old clothes–which are very old by the way and a little tight.
So thank you for scoping me out. I am ever so grateful and fully believe in “paying it forward!”

Project stay at home mom

Yesterday at my 10 yr high school reunion pic nic, I had a girl from my graduating class come up to me and tell me what a good idea Project SAHM was. I felt rather embarrassed because I have had $150 waiting in the bank to surprise a mom, and I haven’t done it. But it meant a lot to me that she took the time to let me know that this idea was inspirring to her and her friends in AZ. That was my goal, but never really knew if anyone was actually looking at the blog, fallowing the stories.

When I started this in November 2006, I was really determined to keep up with it. Now, almost 3 years later, I wonder where the heck the time went!? Like most, we just get going with life and time just slips on by! But there are no excusses! Just got busy!

So, last night I was thinking about the reason I started this. I think when I explained it 3 yrs ago, some people got mixed sigles. Like “why should just sahm’s get something” or “why clothes”. I’ve really come to realize that I can’t really make everyone happy, that’s just how life goes.

Why SAHM’s over working moms? No reason, except that I’m a sahm and that is the group of woman I decided to target. I respect and admire working moms. We all do what we need to do in life and no one “group” is better than the other, IMO.

Why clothes? Because I wanted it to be something fun! I could have done food or something to help out the house hold, but what’s fun about that? LOL. I wanted to pamper woman! Give them something fun to shop for and if the woman I surprise are anything like me, they haven’t been shopping for a new outfit in a long, long time! So, that’s why I chose clothes.

So I am back and I can’t promise I’ll do a wondful job of keeping up, but I do promise that I’ll try lol! I’m human, I forgot, I get busy, ect.

It’s on my calendar…TOMORROW I WILL do my next surprise!! So, come and take a peek back at how it goes!
